Our Bridge. Your Future.
Connecting Grassroots Voices to the Spaces Where Decisions Are Made
From Nairobi to the Continent — Closing the Gender Gap, One Bridge at a Time
Daraja for a more fulfilling community and life
Daraja for a more fulfilling community and life.
Welcome to Daraja Letu Foundation — a Pan-African organisation dedicated to closing the gender gap and building bridges of opportunity for girls, boys, youth, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Africa. Our name says it all. In Swahili, “Daraja” means bridge and “Letu” means ours — together forming Our Bridge.
Since our establishment in 2020 and official registration in 2024, Daraja Letu Foundation has been constructing that bridge across communities in Kenya and beyond, connecting grassroots realities to policy, connecting excluded voices to decision-making spaces, and connecting young people to the futures they deserve.
We believe that lasting change begins at the community level. That is why we work where it matters most — in informal settlements, rural counties, and underserved spaces where gender inequality, limited healthcare access, and systemic barriers are daily realities. Our work is not done for communities; it is done with them.

Counties
We currently operate in Kenya, with active programs in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Homa Bay counties.
Our work reaches adolescent girls and boys, young women, rural farmers, marginalised communities in informal settlements such as Kibera in Nairobi, and Persons with Disabilities.
Through strategic partnerships with organisations including OXFAM, FEMNET, and SWAHIBA NETWORKS, we are growing our footprint and amplifying impact across the continent.
Daraja Letu Foundation implements evidence-based, community-centred programs across five interconnected priority areas:
We advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda, training girls and young women in leadership, governance, and policy engagement through initiatives like Rachel Ouko's Academy.
We integrate SRHR, WASH, and peace education to equip adolescent girls and boys in Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Nairobi with the tools to lead change.
We use the transformative power of the arts to drive community dialogue, amplify voices, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We promote integrated health interventions, strengthening community awareness and access to SRHR and broader well-being services.
We co-create locally driven, sustainable climate solutions with rural farmers and communities, linking environmental action to economic empowerment.
Mentoring the younger generation through different skills to empower and create a sustainable system.
Across Africa, millions of girls drop out of school due to lack of sanitary pads. Young women are excluded from peace negotiations despite being most affected by conflict. Communities facing climate shocks receive little support to adapt. Persons with Disabilities are routinely left out of development programmes. These are not isolated problems — they are interlocking systems of inequality that require intentional, multi-sectoral solutions. Daraja Letu Foundation exists to dismantle these barriers, one community at a time. Our multi-sectoral approach ensures that no intervention operates in a silo. Health, education, climate, governance, and creative expression are woven together — because the lives of the people we serve are woven together too.
Millions of girls across Africa miss or leave school simply due to lack of sanitary pads — a solvable crisis that we refuse to ignore.
Young women bear the heaviest cost of conflict yet remain shut out of peace negotiations — we put them in the room.
The communities least responsible for the climate crisis face it most directly — we co-create local solutions with the people living on the frontline.
Inclusion is not an afterthought in our work — every programme is intentionally designed to reach and centre those most often left behind.
